Oh My Gosh! Pat, I saw you on a program with Dennis Morgigino this afternoon on channel 4SD. I love your beautiful garden!! I just spent five hours today improving my curb (125 ft of frontage)appeal at my home. I am very fortunate to own a pretty little cottage in Oceanside about a mile from the beach. I have a 10,000 square foot property and my house sits on a 1200 foot footpint. There is so much to plant and have fun with. I have always loved gardening and my neighbors and passersby stop to see my collection of succulents and California flowers and I invite them to go for a tour and ask questions. I have invested lots of money in my garden and it is very peaceful and calming for me as you say yours is.
I recently had a bout with breast cancer, fortunately, not life threatening, but required surgery and a time of healing. I was able to wabble around in the garden and enjoy the fall weather last year as I was healing. This summer, having had so much rain, is going to be incredible. I am sure I have become your biggest fan club member. I would truly love to tour your garden and hear you speak about it. Is there a chance that you will be doing any of that sort of tour this summer? Gosh, I hope so!! I am going to head out and buy all of your books tomorrow. I am so happy to have seen your show with Dennis and your beautiful garden.
It appears that you have the wild, lavender, geranium in your collection and is on the cover of one of your books. I believe you sent Dennis home with one as well. I have several blooming now and they are breath taking! I have hundreds of babies growing now. I need to find a useful place to donate cuttings and baby plants to a fund raising event or garden club. I would love to share my plants. I hope you have time to respond and I am going to attend one of your presentations at the campus.
Thank you for sharing your fabulous life with all of us. I believe you would find my life story equally entertaining as well as a tour of my garden.
Thank you and Best Regards
Thank you so much for this lovely email. Your home and garden sounds wonderful and your story intriguing. I am delighted to know that you enjoyed the show on Channel 4SD with Dennis Morgigno. My Southwest and All My Edens books are out-of-print but can be found in used or mint condition through searching for the titles on the Internet. Amazon often carries them in their used book service. My latest all-organic book is readily available at book stores everywhere or at Amazon.com.
I am sorry to have to tell you that I can no longer allow tours of my garden. I used to open my garden to visitors one day a week for a whole month spring, but my insurance company put an end to that a few years ago. Perhaps they had a big loss with an injury in the garden of a garden writer. But the time felt right to me. My garden is now once again what it was meant to be in the beginning—a private place for family, friends, and my own enjoyment. It was good to bid an end to the strain of keeping it up for visits. There are many fine gardens out there today and people far younger than me to keep them up and allow garden tours. I loved doing that years ago but my days for that activity are over. Now I welcome the reduced pressure on my already too-busy life.
Thank you so much for writing. Carry on with happiness in the garden now and always!
Pat: Thank you for your reply. Perhaps you have pictures of your garden on You Tube or some other spot on the Web. If so, I would certainly appreciate seeing them. One cannot express the salvation and peace one finds in the garden. The brain drain of every day living can be a bit much at times. Everything in the garden is so beautiful right now. I am sure you have been kept way too busy and now can let the garden take it’s natural life. I would love to turn mine loose someday. Thanks for your response. I shall always remain your number one fan!! Donna – Oceanside, CA
Thank you so much for your kind comment! Actually my garden has been very easy care this spring. With things like wisteria and clivia all one needs do is kick back in spring, relax and enjoy the fantastic display of blooms.

I was busy this spring writing a new book but as soon as I regain my strength we’ll make some more videos.
Here are some more photos of my garden last Easter. It looks a bit different this Easter since I’ve remodeled this section of the garden.
