Small Cymbidium Orchid Divisions in Bark

Question from Patricia:
During your last Rogers Gardens seminar, you graciously gave us the “offsprings” of the cymbidium orchid you brought with you and showed us how to divide it.

How often do I water these young ones? The bark isn’t telling me anything — since the water just flows through the small plastic pots. I’m in Orange, so they’re getting alot of sun now on the eastside. What’s the best plan? 😉

Answer from Pat:
Best plan: Keep in shade, not in full sun. (Put in bright light but in shadow of something else, like a larger container.) Water often enough to keep the soil mix damp. You may need to empty out the pot and mix the bark with potting soil half and half to make the mix retain adequate moisture in Orange, which has a dry climate, then you can water about twice a week I would think. Tenting with plastic might help maintain moisture as well.
