Grape Vines

I need to purchase grape vines for the 3 terraces on a hill side slope. They let their old grapes die. Since I love Merlot wines I was thinking of special ordering Merlot grapes from Green Thumb. Are these grapes the ones to get?? How hardy are they? Which variety should I purchase. I need at least 12. Any helpful hints on raising grape vines would be appreciated.

The latest edition of Sunset Western Garden Book called “The New Western Garden Book, Completely Revised and Updated” has two whole pages of grape varieties (pp. 344, 345) It would be foolish of me to choose a variety for you when you can have the fun of studying all their characteristics and making up your own mind which to choose, depending on your soil, exposure, hardiness, climate zone and specific desires regarding flavor and uses. Also refer to the box on page 343 which details care and culture.
