Trees for New Home

I’m building a new home 1 mile from the Pacific coast north of San Diego, California. I am on a ridge and get a steady breeze. I am looking for trees to plant that can handle the breeze and are drought tolerant (not palm). A few trees can be up to 30′ the others 20′ or less. Most planting spaces are 10′ square or more. I like the natural coastal look. If it helps the house is built in a Spanish Revival style. I was considering Jacaranda until I read your post that about their dislike of the ocean breeze.

Wind is a limiting factor where you live but among flowering trees that can bloom well within view of the ocean and take wind are: Eucalyptus ficifolia (several colors available and you can see them now in bloom), Cassia spectabilis, Acacia baileyana, Acacia longifolia, Melaleuca nesophila, Metrosideros excelsa, Callistemon viminalis, Callistemon citriodora, and Markhamia hildebrandtii. The naked coral tree is another good one that comes to mind, (Erythrina coralloides). I love Spanish Revival style and think any of these would look good with your home.
