Citrus from Seed
Question from Tony:
Pat, I found a few seeds in my Sumo Citrus which is usually seedless. The seeds have sprouted and have 2 sprouts from the one seed about 2″ tall and very healthy looking. Do i separate them or let them go for awhile. A Sumo (Dekopon) is rare so i am trying to be careful. Thanks
Answer from Pat:
Don’t separate them since you risk damaging them. Plant them together. Once established, clip off the weaker sprout. You are probably aware that since Sumo is a cross of unknown parentage, if you grow a tree from this seed it most likely will not turn out to be anything like a Sumo Citrus. Also, the fruit might not be any good or the tree might be sterile, bearing no fruit.
