Purchasing a grafted Avocado Tree from Nursery

Question from Alyssa:
I am interested in purchasing an avocado tree for my father as well as one for myself.  He lives near the Sacramento region. I am having issues finding the right place to find one that is an A and B already grafted together. I see that they Hass and Fuerte are great together, but not sure with the colder winters in his region. Any recommended pairing for a snow winter and a hot summer?   I am here in Orange County, so I think that they Hass w/ Fuerte would work with our climate.   Places to order from?  Thank you for your time.

Answer from Pat:
Most full-service nurseries carry avocado’s as part of their regular inventory. Try any good nursery. Some avocados are grafted with another variety. If you cannot obtain such a tree, choose two trees, one A variety and one B variety and plant them together in the same hole. Additionally here is a connection to a company that sells a hardy variety.

I cannot guarantee anything about this tree or the claims made for it. I suggest you contact the company and inquire about pollination.

  1. not interested in leaving a reply just want to purchase an organic grafted, both A & B able to grow in zone 9 avocado tree. Can you help to make this purchase possible.

    • My job at this blog is to answer questions of gardeners in Mediterranean climates. I answer one question a day year round. I cannot help with purchasing plants, nor do I recommend growers or sources of plants. You need to do your own research on that in your area. Begin by phoning tree farms and asking at fine nurseries.
